October 2013 Newsletter

Remember: Flock Returns and Annual Membership are due this month

Dear Member

It is that time of year again when all that preplanning starts again for spring, with rams getting ready for tupping or have already done their job again for this year! It is ALSO that time of year again, when all those bits of paperwork need sorting and putting away for winter. The society urges you to fill in the flock returns and send them back by return – another job done and it is a real help to the society. We hope you had a good year, with the summer we all needed and we hope to see many of you at the AGM, please remember to send your numbers in as the visit is to the National Trust property at Llanerchaeron.

FLOCK RETURN FORMS

Once again it’s time to prepare the Annual Flock Book. The Society urges you to return the Flock Return Form (light blue in colour) to enable us to keep the records up to date as information is requested each year by the RBST.

Please ensure you complete the form and return to the Secretary. Copies are also available on the website. Flock books will only be sent out to members who have paid their subscription.

CLOSING DATE IS 22nd OCTOBER 2013.

The Working Committee are also keen to have ads placed in the flock book again this year, and ask the membership if they have any ideas or contacts they could approach on behalf of the society. For further details please contact the Secretary, ASAP.

This year by our society president, Margaret Brain, has kindly provided a Whiteparish Shield as a prize for a new annual competition. Points will be awarded for any Llanwenogs that are placed in ‘Other Breed/Native Breed’ style classes at shows across the UK, where there are no Llanwenog specific classes. If you would like to enter, please send to the Secretary details of the classes entered, any placings (inc groups, championships etc). The Shield will be presented at the AGM in November.

Deadline: 22 October 2013

EWE LAMB REGISTRATION SCHEME

The Ewe lamb registration scheme will be run as in previous years, although the deadline is being moved slightly for ease of administration. A minimum charge of £10-00 per flock will be made which will cover the registration of 10 ewe lambs. Any numbers over 10 will be charged a further £1-00 per head. The scheme continues to remain voluntary at present, but please bear in mind that to enable Rams to be registered they must come from a registered Ewe (initiated from S tagged ewes onwards) Closing date is 22nd October 2013. Forms on the website or contact the Secretary.

EWE LAMB REGISTRATION 2012

Unfortunately there was a problem with the sorting of the 2012 ewe lamb register, this has resulted in some of the records being incorrect on the last two columns. Therefore, these will be corrected and published on the website, should any member wish to have their details sent to them when corrected please contact the Secretary.

ELECTION FOR THE WORKING COMMITTEE

Five members have been nominated for the Working Committee for the 4 available places. These are Mr Keith Ratledge-Grugos Flock, Mr Steffan Davies-Bryndolau Flock, Mr Huw Evans-Alltgoch Flock, Mr Gareth Lloyd, Cletwr Flock and Mrs Margaret Brain - Whiteparish Flock. Voting forms will be sent out in the AGM notification and can also be found here

The position of secretary is also renewed annually and should anyone wish to put their name forward please contact the Society Chairman with details by 22 October 2013. This is a position that will then be voted on by committee members.

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING AND FLOCK VISIT

Following the recent change of venue the Working Committee decided to change the venue again this year, and have decided to hold the event at The Grannell Hotel, Llanwnnen. You can find the form here

- it was also posted to you (light pink) to be completed for the AGM & Dinner to be returned by October 22nd 2013 with a cheque made payable to Llanwenog Sheep Society (£18.50 per person for the dinner)

Those of you who wish to stay for the weekend, The Grannell is also a hotel and offers Bed & Breakfast (although limited rooms are available).

Details of the AGM Weekend as follows:

Friday 8th November 2013– Meet at the Castle Green Hotel 7-30pm onwards. For a meal and chat.

Saturday 9th November 2013 - Meet at the Rookery Car Park (as last year) at 9.30 am. We shall make our way down to Llanerchaeron Flock by kind permission of the National Trust Llanerchaeron and Delyth Thomas, Farm Manager. Or meet at Llanerchaeron (near Aberaeron on the Lampeter Road) 10 o’clock for 10.30am.

Due to the fact that the flock is on National Trust property, accurate numbers are required, please can you contact the Secretary should you wish to attend the flock visit (and the house visit).

There will be tea and biscuits prior to the flock visit and lunch (payable on the day), with the opportunity to purchase an afternoon ticket to view the property in the afternoon, the house is due to be closed, so this is potentially to be opened up just for the society, hence the need for more detail than usual.

Please note: The Secretary will need numbers in the following areas by 1st November 2013 (please also confirm if you are NT members):

Those attending the flock visit ONLY

Those attending the flock visit & lunch

Those attending the flock visit, lunch and house visit.

Thank-you.

Looking forward to 2014…………………….
