The Annual Show and Sale took place on 26 August 2017 and continues to be one of the high points of the Llanwenog Sheep Society's calendar and this being the 58th Sale, proved no exception. With a catalogue entry of 188 animals which yielded an overall average sale figure of £13,010.55.
To commence proceedings was the Show with Mr Steffan Davies of the Byndolau Flock judging the Ewe and Ewe Lambs and Mr Richard Edwards of the Glanrhyd Flock juding the Ram and Ram Lamb section.
The Ayshford Perpetual Challenge Cup for the Best Male was awarded to Mr Huw Evans of the Alltgoch Flock with the well matured Ram who went on to be the highest priced male of the sale selling for £755, bought by the Penycoed Flock. Reserve went to the Glwydwern Flock again with a yearling ram which sold for £510 destined for North Wales to the Bryn Moel Flock.
The Cwmere Perpetual Challenge cup for the best Female was awarded to Mr Maurice Greenslade of the Langley Flock, which was one of 7 lots bought by Miss Suzy Mills of the Pengelli Flock. Reserve and highest priced Ewe went to Mr and Mrs Jenkins of the Gwynfaen Flock, this delightful ewe was purchased as the foundation for a new flock by Miss Carys Evans, under the guidance of her Father Mr Eurig Evans of the Penrherber Flock. Carys, one of the youngest members of the Society has named her flock Nant Sara.
Break down of the sale as follows, in guineas:-
5 Rams over the age of two presented selling a total of £1,395 making an average of £279.
Yearling Ram Lambs selling for a total of £3,985 making an average of £306.53
Ram Lambs present selling for a total of £1,680 making an average of £280
Ewes selling for a total of £4269, averaging £118.53.
Ewe Lambs selling for a total of £1,016 with an average of £112.88.
Making an average overall per head of £191.17.
