Bridgwater College Lambing Fun Day 2017
A cold cloudy day certainly did not deter the public from attending this annual event with its many & varied attractions. There were plenty of farm animals to see including the dairy herd, calves, pigs & most importantly the sheep.
During the day we were able to meet with Megan Herriot, this year’s recipient of the Trevor Kelland Memorial Bursary. Megan confesses to being a newcomer to Llanwenogs & has found her research into the breed most interesting. She is comparing their performance to that of Mules & comments that Llanwenogs are very good mothers & although their lambs are smaller than those from Mules when born, they have better growth rates. She has also noted that losses are management rather than breed related. This is certainly good news for our breed & we await her final project report with interest.
Also on display next to our stand was the Glwydwern shearling ram purchased
by the College last autumn. This ram is certainly maturing well,
demonstrating the quality of our breed.
Our thanks are due to Charles Horton for helping during the day & retrieving the stand for its next appearance at the Three Counties Show.
