           WHY I CHOSE LLANWENOG SHEEP

Having Completed a fencing project I thought the time had come for some sheep of our own. I came across the Llanwenog at the Malvern Three Counties Show (Rare Breeds day)and was immediatly taken by their striking appearance. Visiting the Society stand I was charmed by a Society Member and encouraged by tales of docility, ease of lambing and hardiness; essential traits for a novice shepherdess living at 1000ft on the Welsh Borders. Happily all the characteristics which first attracted me to the breed have been borne out. They even come in when called, without the need for a sheep dog and they lamb well in the March snow

WHY I CHOSE LLANWENOG SHEEP

We are at 800ft, 12 miles from Cardigan Bay so we chose Llanwenogs because they are our local breed and were said to be docile and easy to manage. We purchased 6 ewes and a ram at Llanybydder and were pleased to find they are indeed easy to manage, easily trained to the bucket and haven't challenged the fences. The ram worked well and they delivered twin lambs with no problems, They are good mothers and the lambs needed little attention. The lambs grew well and graded in four months. The ram we used on our mixed parentage ewes with a similar result.
We have been impressed by their ease of management and they have given us good early maturing lambs.
